Welcome To the Department of Botany

The study of Botany is highly allied to our day-to-day life and natural processes. This enables the students to understand the principles of Environment, Life sciences, Agriculture, Earth sciences and Health Sciences. This forms the basis or foundation to the students for further higher studies to join postgraduate courses in practically all branches of life sciences. Besides, making eligible to join courses such as MBA, (Biotechnology), etc

Department of Botany was established in 2008. It offers up to date program of F.Y. B.Sc. S.Y. B. Sc, & T.Y. B. Sc in Botany which emphasizes emerging areas of modern botany including various advanced courses like Plant Physiology, Plant Biotechnology, Genetics, applied Botany (Tissue culture technique,) and Fundamental botany (Taxonomy, Anatomy, Physiology of plants). The department has always emphasized teaching, co-curricular activities, and Extracurricular activities.

Class tests, Assignments, and Hands-on activities are given to the students to enhance their curricular performance. Study tours, Botanical Garden visits, guest lectures, project exhibitions, and seminars are a few of the department's co-curricular activities, which certainly prepare the students to face future challenges. The department conducts regular botanical excursion tours to different areas for the collection of plant material. Department of Botany has different gardens including a Botanical Garden, Medicinal Garden, Cactus Garden, and Shed net house with various species of plants.

The department has experienced and well-qualified staff members and well-equipped laboratories.

The department has two laboratories and one plant tissue culture laboratory). In which the practical of FY, SY and Ty classes are taken. The departmental teaching and learning process is supported by an elaborate Fossil specimens and slides, Plastic embedded specimens, Charts, Models, Microscopic slides, Herbarium etc.

Instruments and types of equipment

The department is equipped with a variety of instruments and types of equipment needed for regular studies at the time of practicals of different classes, such as-
  • Microscope: Dissecting, Compound, Binocular, Trinocular.
  • Photographic equipment like Camera, Ocular Camera, and Camera Lucida.
  • Electronic Balance, Oven, BOD, Incubator, Autoclave, Laminar Air-Flow Cabinet, Seed Germinator, pH Meter, Microtome, Refrigerator, Gel electrophoresis apparatus, Centrifuge, Soil Thermometer, Hair Hygrometer, Cup Anemometer, Maximum & Minimum Thermometer, etc.
  • Computer, laser printer, copier, scanner, Slide Projector.
